Fibromyalgia Medication

Fibromyalgia Medication And Alternative Treatment That You Can Rely On To Alleviate Fibromyalgia Pain And Symptoms.

Fibromyalgia is characterized by pain and body aches. The pain is usually felt in all parts of the body and is not restricted to one area. For a fibromyalgia diagnosis to be made, the patient has to present a series of symptoms upon which the doctor will rule out all other diseases. When tested for infection and other conditions, blood, urine, stool and tissue tests as well as X-ray scans return negative results. This is in spite of the patient presenting similar symptoms to diseases that are diagnosed using these same tests. The condition is not however fatal and is easily managed with a combination of treatment therapies. When the doctor is satisfied that a patient is suffering from fibromyalgia, they will initiate a treatment program for them. Treatment for fibromyalgia includes drug therapy, herbal medicine, exercise therapy and alternative treatment therapy.

Usually, a combination of medication, physical therapy, counseling and sufferer education is used. Education is very important for the patient because it helps them understand the condition more and appreciate the changes going on in their body. Different medications are used to treat fibromyalgia. These are analgesics which reduce pain and fatigue; anti-depressants for psychological relief and enhancement of nerve response, anti-inflammatory drugs are given to reduce pain, pain relievers and anti-seizure drugs. In addition to medication, patients are encouraged to take up exercises that are low impact. Aerobics, walking, swimming and cycling are good.

In addition to stretching the muscles and thus providing some relief, they also increase chances of sleeping sound at night. Acupuncture, massage and yoga do help too. Patients are also encouraged to eat healthy. Specifically, they should eliminate all inflammatory foods from their diet. These are things like saturated fats, sugar, refined foodstuff, caffeine and alcohol. Allergens can also be fibromyalgia syndrome triggers and should be eliminated. These include peanuts, eggs, fish, wheat, soy, tomatoes, diary, citrus and corn. Because people react to different allergens, reintroduce these foods one at a time to see if you can identify the culprit. Increase intake of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fiber and reduce animal fat intake.
