Fibromyalgia can become a major burden on anyone’s daily life due to the painful effects of the FMS symptoms overall. Other types of drugs used for fibromyalgia pain relief purposes include certain drugs often used for treatment of depression and anxiety such as Xanax (alprazolam), Desyrel, Prozac, Pamelor, Remeron, Zoloft, as well as Effexor.
Medications such as Lunesta, Ambien, and Xyrem are also used in order to help induce sleep. Many of the fibromyalgia medications mentioned as anti-depressants can often be used to help induce sleep as well.
Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride) and Provigil are often used for combating “fibro fog” and other neurological effects of fibromyalgia often caused by fatigue.
Drugs used for muscle relaxation include Soma, Zanaflex, Flexeril, and Sinequan (for muscle spasms).
There are many different options available for fibromyalgia pain relief alone and many of those used include the aforementioned fibromyalgia medications as well as Elavil (for milder pain relief), Neurontin, Ultracet, Bentyl, Zonegran (for more neuropathic pains), Paxil, Ultram, and Benylin.
In addition, medications given for pains associated with migraines caused by fibromyalgia include Topomax and Imitrex.
