Some benefits of using flexeril, to relieve symptoms due to fibromyalgia, are a decrease in muscle spasms, less neck and shoulder pain and less back pain. Flexeril can also improve sleep because there is less muscle pain. Range of motion is improved with the use of flexeril in the treatment of fibromyalgia, as well as decreased headaches.
A generic prescription is available for flexeril in the treatment of fibromyalgia. The generic form of flexeril is called cyclobenzaprine, also known as cyclobenzaprine HCL. Generic flexeril is available in 5 mg and 10 mg. There is an extended-release form of cyclobenzaprine available on the market called amrix extended release capsules and is available in 15 and 30 mg strengths.
A less sedating form of flexeril in a 5 mg tablet, which is also recommended in the treatment of muscle spasms due to fibromyalgia, was approved by the FDA and marketed by McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceuticals in 2003. A few of the other companies who followed suit in distributing flexeril and cyclobenzaprine to ease the symptoms of fibromyalgia, include ARUP Laboratories, Ortho McNeil Pharmaceutical and McNeil Consumer Products Company.
When used in conjunction with rest and physical therapy, flexeril can be helpful for fibromyalgia patients and other people who suffer from muscle ailments. Do not use flexeril if you use an MAO inhibitor. Talk with your doctor about any allergies you may have or if you think you may be pregnant.
If you suffer from heart disease or thyroid problems, you should talk with your physician before beginning flexeril. Flexeril may cause drowsiness and should be avoided while driving or operating machinery.
