What IS Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia, or FMS, affects millions of individuals a year. Yet, many do not even know that what they are experiencing is indeed fibromyalgia. Here we will discuss what fibromyalgia IS and what the symptoms of fibromyalgia are.
Fibromyalgia is a condition caused by neurons which can cause amplified pain in certain areas on an individual’s body who is affected by FMS.
FMS is considered to be more of a chronic issue many have to manage very similar to chronic pain syndrome.
The word fibromyalgia can actually be broken down into three parts whereas ‘fibro’ literally means “fibrous tissue”, ‘my’ means “muscle”, and ‘algia’ refers to “pain”.
For fibromyalgia patients, the symptoms of FMS are mainly found by testing certain commonly affected areas on the body for fibromyalgia as it may be quite difficult to find out if the individual is suffering from FMS merely through lab or blood tests.
For many, fibromyalgia can become quite a burden on their day-to-day life as the pain associated with FMS can vary in severity or intensity level. This intensity can vary from person to person.
Some of the symptoms of FMS include stiffness of muscles, amplified pain in areas around the neck, joints, and muscle tissues. In addition, again, fibromyalgia can indeed cause stress, , memory loss, headaches, blurred vision, fatigue, nausea, depression, restlessness and more.
Ultimately, if left untreated, fibromyalgia may cause an individual to lose normal physical functioning such as that of running or running errands. This can cause an individual to become depressed or exhausted daily.
The main cause of fibromyalgia may differ form person to person. However, studies have shown that major traumatic events such as a car accident may cause fibromyalgia symptoms to appear.
Proper treatment for fibromyalgia can vary from each FMS sufferer. For some it may only require more exercise, a memory foam mattress for pain relief at night, some physical therapy or massage, and certain vitamins & supplements. But, for others more intense treatment such as that of prescription drugs such as Lyrica, Savella, sodium oxybate, or Cymbalta in addition to the aforementioned fibromyalgia treatment methods.
Although there are indeed many treatments for FMS, many have found no absolute cure for their fibromyalgia.
It is important to remember when considering what is fibromyalgia that just because such conditions are hard to get rid of completely, it does not mean that the pain and discomfort associated with the condition cannot be almost completely alleviated.
It is important to speak with your doctor or medical professional in regards to possible fibromyalgia symptoms and how they can be alleviated.
Much of what has been discussed here will be discussed with a professional in treating fibromyalgia and many have found that the FMS treatments available can indeed prove to be very effective in helping prevent and treat fibromyalgia symptoms.
